We are pleased to announce that CHIC is going to be at Montgomery and will collect DNA on all terrriers for no cost. The purpose of the DNA collection is to help with health issues in our breed as well as future health and genetics studies. CHIC normally charges $5.00 per dog. The application link is here as you may wish to fill it out prior to going to Montgomery. Non-members are welcome to take advantage of this as well as any other terrier breeds. There will be members circulating to assist anyone who might need help watching their dogs or anything else in conjunction with this. There will be a tent set up for this purpose. If you have any questions please contact Carleen Farrington at miternjrt@comcast.net.

Terriers, terriers, everywhere... The MCKC Terrier Show and all the other events taking place throughout the week are incredibly exciting and fun, but can be overwhelming to a first-timer. In fact, keeping track of all that MCKC Week has to offer can even prove difficult for the most experienced MCKC veteran. In an effort to consolidate all the information about the events and provide everyone with the information they need, we have prepared a handy webguide to all things MCKC.

The AKC is seeking input from the Fancy of possibly expanding mixed breed dog participation in AKC programs specifically researching a listing service for spayed and neutered mixed breed dogs. They are exploring the possibility of enrollees in this service being eligible to compete in AKC Companion Events (agility, obedience, rally, tracking). They are requesting that we respond to the Mixed Breed Dog Participation Survey so that they can receive our opinions on the subject. They have also prepared an information packet on the background and facts regarding mixed breed dogs and AKC's interest in mixed breed dogs which may be useful when filling out this survey.

The survey and the informational packet may be accessed through www.akc.org/mixedbreed_survey. They are asking that we complete the survey by March 31, 2007.

Announcement BOD Meeting

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we have just completed our first meeting. As many of you know, we didn’t take office until November 1, and we had so many things on our agenda that we had to hold two separate day-long sessions to get through the agenda! We hope to have our minutes posted as soon as possible on the Member-Only website, but in the meantime, we wanted to let the membership know that we were hard at work, that we had gotten a lot done in our meeting(s), and that we are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Announcement Judge’s Education CD

As the membership is already likely aware, the vote on the submitted Judge’s Education CDs resulted in a tied vote. As no clear winner was picked, the issue has returned to the Board. Given the vast importance of creating a CD that the membership will be satisfied with and that will be well-received by judges, and based on feedback we have received from the membership, we have opted to give this issue back to the members.

First, we are again soliciting CDs from the membership. CDs will be subject to several formatting and submission requirements, which will be listed on the website no later than January 31, 2007, and compliant CD submissions will be due to Sally Yancey, the Chair of the Judge’s Education Committee, no later than July 1, 2007. More details will follow with the formatting and submission requirements.

Secondly, we are in the process of creating a “Members-Only” section of the website that will include a forum devoted to the Judge’s Education CDs. Members can use this forum to post ideas or photos for inclusion in the CD or to make comments about what they would like to see in the CD. Further, those submitting CDs can use this forum as a resource for bouncing ideas off of the membership or to seek materials. Please keep checking the website for a link to this forum, as it is coming soon!

Finally, we are asking all members to help contribute to this process. We are giving a fair amount of time (5-6 months) for the creation of CDs, and we are really hoping to get a number of submissions as a result of this extended submission time. So if you are thinking about sending one in, please do! We are also giving the membership a greater means of feedback on the CDs, via the members-only forum again, please share your resources your wisdom, your writing skills, and your photos so that we as a club can come up with the best possible CD. Finally, and most importantly, we really need for each and every member to spend the time to review each candidate CD and to vote for the CD that they prefer.

We thank you all for your patience and participation in this process. Although we are aware that this is taking a bit more time than originally anticipated, we feel confident that, in light of the membership’s divided vote, this step is necessary and will lead us to the best possible final product.

Announcement Committees

We are pleased to announce that we have already made some great progress in creating new committees for the New Year. However, we would like to do more! We have a really good club, but we think we could have a really great club if all of our wonderful and talented members were to contribute to the club by serving on at least one committee or volunteering for “as needed” assistance, like helping the Secretary stuff envelopes and send out mail, writing an article for The Nook, or running errands for MCKC. There is an article on this year’s committees in the latest issue of The Nook (coming soon!), so please be sure to read about what we are trying to accomplish and volunteer where you can! If you are interested in helping, please feel free to contact any Board member and let us know that you can lend a hand!

Happy Holidays to All from the PRTAA BOD!

We would like to take this time to wish the membership a very happy holiday, and to give thanks for the blessings we have received over the past year and hope to continue to receive in the New Year.

We thank the membership for their support and trust;

We thank the membership for their patience as we settle in as a new Board;

We thank the membership for all of their contributions to the club; and

We thank the Parson for bringing these wonderful little dogs into our lives!

Happy Holidays to ALL!!!

Announcement: Open Meeting

The Board is currently considering holding an Open Meeting mid-year. The meeting would take place via teleconference, and any member wishing to submit items for discussion or wishing to call in and attend could do so. It is our hope that this would give the members a chance to voice their opinions and discuss issues directly with us. If you think this could be beneficial, please contact any Board member and let them know!

NOTICE

Dear PRTAA Members,

The Bylaws committee, via a unanimous vote, has asked Anna Carr to serve along side us as a committee member. As you are aware, the new bylaws come up for review by the PRTAA Board on September 17, 2006, and we consider it a great service by way of Anna's legal expertise and love for this breed to become a part of making the proposed bylaws a true reality.

As Chair of the Bylaws Committee, and I speak for Marcia and Sally as well, I feel Anna will be a valuable asset not only to the committee, but also to the Club, the membership and our breed. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Anna Carr to the PRTAA Bylaws Committee.

Kindest regards,

Susan Reaney
