Michigan Rescue Has a Busy Summer
|
Depending on one's perspective, this summer has been good or bad. Bad in that there seem to be many Jack Russells in need of new homes. Good in that we have been very fortunate to find some wonderful homes for them.

Bucket, aka Petey, was found in a state park where he had been foraging for food. Skinny and scruffy, he still maintained his plucky, Jack Russell disposition.
While he would not win any beauty contest, he has won the heart of his new boy. He loves water and entertained us by curling himself into a bucket to cool off and walking the railing of the deck to get to the grill to see it there was any food left.

Elmo was also nobody's Best of Breed, but what a lover. He was surrendered because he bit a child, even though the parents admit the child was tormenting him. When he was picked up, he was found in a playhouse, where a child was dumping dirt on him.
He was placed with a sixteen-year-old girl who loved him so much; she snuck her mother's allergy pill because she was very allergic to him. With much sadness, the family had to return him. But he is now the friend of a young boy.

Andy Capp went through 3 homes from the time he was found until the time he reached us. The first home had no fenced yard and didn't like the fact that he roamed and came home dirty. The second home did not like the holes he dug.
The third home said he peed on the furniture. It was discovered that he had a urinary infection. A real cutie, he is now at home on a farm with a couple that understands that he is a dog.

Tigger , 4 years old, was turned into a pound in South Bend, Indiana. Thanks to the kindness of Gail Grenert, he was turned over to rescue. His owners said he killed a puppy. In his foster home, he showed no aggression with dogs, cats, or people. He turned out to be a very well mannered, gentle dog.
Although his surrender sheet said he was not housebroken, he never had any mistakes. Hopefully he will be placed soon. |
|
Deezer was found as a stray by a lady who participated in the Airedale rescue. Although she contacted all the shelters and advertised, she could not locate his owner. A typical spunky Russell, he loves playing ball and sitting on laps.
He has been tentatively placed and if it works out he will be wintering in the Caribbean and summering in Traverse City. (a dog's life, hmm?)
